Sporadic bovine systemic leukosis was diagnosed in a one and a half year old Mashona steer which was emaciated, anorexic and dull with pallor of the mucous membranes and elevated heart rate. There was oculonasal discharge and severe inspiratory distress. All superficial lymph nodes were enlarged and the third eyelids oedematous, thickened and prolapsed. The animal passed dark tarry faeces. The diarrhoea was accompanied by severe tenesmus. There was a marked lymphocytosis and a slight anaemia. Most of the lymphoyctes were immature. At necropsy there was generalised enlargement of the lymph nodes and tumour inflitration of the spleen, liver, heart muscle, kidneys, oropharynx and tonsils. The bone marrow was hyperplastic. Histopathological examination of the affected organs revealed diffuse or focal infiltration of malignant lymphocytes with architectural effacement
