Proposals for the liberalisation of agricultural pricing and marketing and the development of efficient and competitive marketing boards

The purpose of this study is to develop a programme for liberalising the prices of agricultural products and to recommend changes in the role of the agricultural marketing boards. The fundamental objectives of the recommendations are concerned with growth, equity and efficiency. After the general background set out in Section A, the study in Section B examines the issue of trade liberalisation in relation to each major agricultural product and then in Section C, considers the question of the reform of the marketing boards in relation to each of the five agricultural boards concerned
