Nutrient uptake and yield response of T. aman rice varieties as affected by planting treatments [in Bangladesh]

A field experiment was conducted to study the performance of the nutrient uptake by Nizersail and BR-11 with 4 planting treatments, consisting of variable seedling age and time of planting. Seedling age more than 60 days transplanting later than September 3, decreased significantly the grain yields of both varieties. Transplanting on 18th September with 75 day-old seedlings gave reasonable grain yield of Nizersail as compared to negligible grain yield of BR-11. The concentrations of plant nutrients as three stage of crop growth of both the varieties were determined. The contents of N, P, K and Fe were maximum at 30 DAT and then showed progressive decline. Determination of sulfur and N:S ratio in the straw indicated that both the varieties suffered from inadequate supply of sulfur at 30 DAT and at harvest the ratios became similar and satisfactory. The nutrient concentrations in the straw was influenced very little by the planting treatments but higher uptake of nutrients by the plant tops at harvest occurred for the earlier two planting treatments than the latter ones.
