Distribution of dermatomycosis in cattle, goat and their in-contact human [Bangladesh]

Of the 312 cattle, 307 goat and their 975 in-contact humans examined from 5 villages of Mymensingh, 29 (9.3%) cattle, 57 (18.6%) goat and 246 (25.2%) humans were found to be affected with clinical dermatomycosis. The disease was found to be associated with young calves up to 6 months old, labourer, animal attendant and housewife, people in the age between 30-50 years and with the monsoon season. Tinea corporis (48.6%) was most common, followed by Tinea pedis (21.1%), Tenea cruris (18.3%), Tinea unguium (4.5%), Tinea barbae (4.1%) and Tinea capitis (4.1%). In humans, Trichophyton verrucosum (384%) was the most common isolate, followed by T. violaceum (30.1%), Piedraia hortae (23.3%) and T. mentagrophytes (granular) (8.2%). In cattle and goat, isolation frequency of T. verrucosum was higher than T. mentagrophytes.
