Agrotis ipsilon, Heliothis zea and Trichoplusia ni (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Pheromone trapping in the Metropolitan region

Synthetic pheromone traps of Agrotis ipsilon, Heliothis zea, Trichoplusia ni and Spodoptera frugiperda were located in Curacavi and Pirque, Metropolitan Region, to monitor their male flights for two years. The traps were served weekly and daily temperatures were obtained from meteorological stations in both places. Trap catches varied yearly and between localities. Flights of A. ipsilon peaked in late October and early November: other peaks were registered in January-February, and in April-may. Massive captures of H. zea concentrated in march. Instead, captures of T. ni showed several peaks: one during the second half of November, another in January and early February, and others mainly in April and May. S. frugiperda was not found. Based on the thermal constant of each species and temperatures in both localities. A. ipsilon should complete two generations a year, H. zea only one, and T. ni three. The use of these traps to predict critical periods of attack of the pests is proposed using corn and cole crops as examples
