Quantitative comparison of chromosomal C-bands between the pure breeds Erhualian and Large Yorkshire [China]

Lymphocyte culture and C-banding of chromosome of domestic pigs were carried out. The measurements of the length, area and heterochromatin quantity of C-bands were made of No. 13 and No.16 chromosomes from the pure breeds Erhualian and Large Yorkshire with an attempt at revealing breed differences of chromosomal C-band of domestic pigs. The results showed that significant differences exist of the length, area and heterochromatin quantity of C-bands in chromosome No. 16 between Erhualian and Large Yorkshire. These breed characteristics in C-bands provide important basis for distinguishing the two pig breeds
