Chromosomal aberration and inherited sterility of Asian corn borer, Ostrinia furnacalis (Guen.) with low dose irradiation

F1 sterility and chromosomal aberration of Asian corn borer induced by rather low dosages of gamma radiation were studied. The chromosome number of Asian corn borer was n=31. Irradiation induced a lot of aberrations in chromosome structure in P generation and it inherited to F1 generation. The results showed that chromosomal aberration of germinal cells in F1 generation was directly related to high F1 sterility. However, such sterility only existed in one generation, and fertility was recovered in the next generation
