From 1983...1993 eight feeding trials with rapeseed were carried out in the Department of Nutrition of the Estonian Institute of Animal Breeding and Veterinary Science. The glucosinolate contents of the rapeseed varieties grown in Estonia are quite variable, being in most cases within the limits for 00 varieties. The feeding trials on dairy cattle indicated that using 1...2 kg fat rich rapeseed cake in the ration increased milk production by 0.9...1.8 kg. Feeding 3 kg rapeseed cake, biochemical changes occurred in the blood. The use of that rich rapeseed cake up to 2 kg per day did not change milk and milk fat chemical composition or milk taste. Adding rapeseed oil in small amounts did not change the quality of butter. 0.5 kg rapeseed oil in the ration increased the iodine number of milk fat and butter softness. 1...2 kg fat-rich rapeseed cake had no significant effect on the digestibility of the ration. Adding 0.4 kg rapeseed oil to the ration decreased the digestibility of organic matter, crude fibre and nitrogen free-extract
