Amino acid composition of oilseed rape, turnip rape and marrow stem kale

Oilseed meals, known for their valuable protein content, are nowadays more and more used as protein supplements in animal feeds. Amino acid composition of proteins is the most important factor determining the feeding quality of them. Amino acid composition in seeds of 11 winter oilseed rape cultivars was investigated and compared with its composition in seeds of 2 cultivars of spring rape, turnip rape 'Ante' and 'Perko PVH'. As it turned out, there were no remarkable differences in the pattern of amino acids between different cultivars of winter rape. The sum of amino acids and also sum of essential amino acids was a bit greater in case of seeds of 'Perko PVH' - as its protein content was also higher than of winter and spring rape and turnip rape. Content of Lys and S-amino acids in storage proteins was at the same level in all these crops. Amino acid content in green mass was analogous in fodder rape. 'Perko PVH' and marrow stem kale 'Sieversi roheline uedikapsas'. Sum of amino acids and sum of essential amino acids are in negative correlation with the growing period of fodder rape. Also content of Lys decreases when plant gets older but content of Met + Cys does not change essentially
