The effect of "Alifet" on milk production of dairy cows

Two experiments were conducted in the farm of the Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki in order to study the effect of "Alifet" on milk production of dairy cows. In the first experiment twenty eight Holstein dairy cows were divided in couples according to their body weight and their previous milk production in such a way to form two equal groups (A1 and B1). Cows of group A1 were fed the control diet, while those of group B1, from the beginning of the 3rd week after calving to the middle of 9th month of the lactation period, received, with their diet, 1 kg of "Alifet" per head per day. For the second experiment six Holstein dairy cows were used. These cows were allocated on three treatments A2, B2 and C2 (two cows on each treatment), according to a 3*3 Latin square design. Cows of A2, B2 and C2 received daily, with their diet, 0.5 and 1 kg/head of "Alifet" respectively. The addition of 1 kg/head daily of "Alifet" in the diet of the cows during the first three months of the lactation period resulted to an increase of total milk production, milk fat and fat corrected milk, to a slight decrease of milk body cells and to decrease of milk protein content.
