The safety of food packaging
1994
Salkinoja, M.
Paper as a packaging material for food is of advantage from the ecological point of view, however the hazard of dangerous microorganisms staying alive in it is greater. If, in the course of manufacturing, the latter are completely killed using chemicals, the biocide materials leaving the paper waste may pollute the environment. Therefore one ought not to endeavour killing every microorganism but only the most dangerous ones /e. g. Bacillus cereus, Clostridium/. This is a task for paper factories, whereas the permitted value is 50 living cells per dm2 paper surface
