Intraspecific hybridization between DON- and NIV-production types of Fusarium graminearum through protoplast fusion

Intraspecific heterokaryons were forced between deoxynivalenol-producing type (DON-Type) (benomyl-resistant) and nivalenol-producing low in polyethylene glycol treatment of their somatic protoplasts. Resistance to benomyl and acriflavine were induced in the susceptible (wild) DON- and NIV-type respectively with N-methyl-N, nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (NNTG). No apparent effect was found of the (NNTG) treatment on the toxic properties of both types
