Characterization of the coffee berry disease pathogen, Colletotrichum kahawae sp. nov.

Compares a range of colletotrichum isolates from different areas using both morphological and pathological criteria and some biochemical methods based on substrate utilization. Results facilitate further differentiation of the coffee berry disease pathogen from other similar colletotrichum strains, which occur in coffee often in close association with it, and from other isolates of C. gloeosporioides. They also show that it should be recognized as a distinct species, formally named C. kahawae sp. nov.
