Performance of Sulfosate 480 G/L (Touch down) and Basta 14 SL herbicides on weed control and yields of coffee in Kenya
1993

Sulfosate 480g/L (N-phosphonomethyl glycine trimethyl sulphonium salt) and Basta 14 SL (ammonium-DL-homo-alanine-4-YL (methyl) phosphate) were evaluated on weed kill and effects on yields of coffee in Kenya between 1990 and 1992. Sulfosate at 2-3 L/ha and Basta at 2 L/ha effectively controlled weeds when applied using the red imperial chemical industries (I CL) polyjet nozzle fitted on 20 L knapsack sprayer in 250 L of water/ha. Yields tended to be lower in treatments with higher weed infestation where the lowest rate of Basta (1.5 L/ha) was used compared to sulfosate at 1.5 L/ha. Application of 0.5 L/ha Basta at low volume (100l water/ha) using low volume nozzle, humark 1.0 were effective on annual weeds at the 1-4 leaf stage
