Estimation of the frequency of early ripening seedlings bearing middle or big fruits in the progeny of Japanese pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai var. culta Nakai)

Frequency of early ripening seedlings bearing middle or big fruits in the progeny families was estimated. Estimated values and observed values were compared, using sixteen families and their parental cultivars. Frequency distributions among seedlings within family of the fruit ripening time index (FRTI) and fruit weight could be approximated to a normal distribution. Negative correlations and positive correlations were detected between the mid-parental value of FRTI and the frequency of early ripening seedlings as well as between the mid-parental value of FRTI and the frequency of seedlings bearing fruit exceeding 200g, respectively.
