Determination of boron in wood impregnated with boron-containing conservants

A method of determination of boron in wood preserved by boron- containing conservants has been developed. Wood is dissolved in a mixture of conc. nitric acid and conc. sulphuric acid, the boron is extracted by chloroform solution of 2,2-dipropyl-1,3-propanediol and determined in the extract photometrically using 4,4'-dimethoxydibenzoylmethane. The direct determination of boron in the extract without preliminary reextraction allows to reduce the time necessary for analysis and increases the accuracy of obtained results.
