The paper describes the contribution of the different aspects of fisheries technology to the development of fisheries in Nigeria. Factors influencing development of fishing gear, fishing craft, fishing processing and feed technology are discussed. The need to pay particular attention to fisheries technology if the much desired self-sufficiency in fish production is to be achieved was highlighted
