Causes of weed problem and systems interaction were identified through diagnostic surveys conducted in Bagumbayan and Carmen [Mindanao, Philippines]. A major cause was a high density and reproduction of weeds which was a result of inadequate weed control measures in earlier crop cycles and weedy follow periods. Different weed control strategies were evaluated and their adoption by farmers was also examined. The difficulty of generating and disseminating weed control strategies requires a lot of work, from designing, establishing and evaluating trials, through the actual dissemination of new technologies.
