Using squash technique on the pollen mother cells, the chromosome number of Muntingia calabura and its meiotic behavior was observed. The chromosome count during diakinesis showed that the chromosome number of M. calabura is 2n=26. Meiotic behavior is generally normal. Chromosomal aberrations include non-congression and early disjunction in metaphase 1 and laggards in telophase 2. High pollen fertility (85.29 percent) is reflective of the normal meiotic segregation
