Effect of feeding levels on production measures and response of light Astra L pullets to water deprivation

An experiment on 240 Astra L hens fed a diet containing 16 percent of protein (control), or 14 and 12 percent of crude protein during two laying phases was carried out. A decrease of production measures (feed intake, feed conversion efficiency and laying performance) in hens fed the low-protein diets was observed. The detrimental effect of 3 days water deprivation on body and abdominal fat weight as well as on ovary and liver disorders was stated.
