Storage system of plant genetic resources in the "Gene bank" of IHAR Radzikow

The idea to conserve plant genetic resource in IHAR Radzikow was put forward in 1951. The long-time storage of seeds of the dicotyledons was started in 1981. Up to the present 39971 accessions belonging to 245 plant species have been put into storage. Before placing into storage the seed is assessed on its germination capacity and water content which should not exceed 4-8 percent. The seed of cereals is stored at 10 degrees C and all other plant species at 0 degree C
