Research regarding the sowing density depending on the distance between the rows and on the dose of nitrogen applied in sugar sorghum (Sorghum saccharatum) cultivated on sandy soils

The research carried out during 1990-1993 at the SCCCPN Dabuleni emphasized that the highest yields of biomass were obtained in the following conditions: sowing density of 15 viable kernels/m2, distance between rows - 70 cm applying 150 kg n/ha (93.3 t/ha). An increased sowing density of 15-20 v.k./m2 and of nitrogen doses up to 150-200 kg N/ha, determines an accelerated growing rhythm after the first hay harvest, an increased stalk height and number of sprouts in the plants. As to the content of sugar in stems, it was stated that it was not influenced by the factors studied. The production of biomass was influenced in a significant way by the density and the dose of nitrogen applied and less influenced by the distance between the rows.
