Role of chromosomes in control of grain protein content in wheat substitution lines of Saratovskaya 29/Janetskis Probat

A new series of substitution lines was established on the basis of aneuploid common wheat cultivar Saratovskaya 29 and highly productive and protein-rich cultivar Janetskis Probat as the donor. Total protein content in grain of 16 substitution lines and parental cultivars (relative content, %, absolute content, mg/cariopsis) was investigated. Lines 1A, 2D, 4D, 5B, 7A still remain to be explored. The effect of substitution of chromosomes of cultivar Saratovskaya 29 for homologous of cultivar Janetskis Probat was noted by an increase in total protein (%) in meat of substitution lines studied, compared with the recipient cultivar (15%). Lines 1D, 3D, 6D had highest protein content (17%). Chromosomes 1B, 1D, 2B, 2D, 3D, 4A, 4B, 5D, 6A, 6B, 7D carry genes which are responsible (in different degree) for increase in absolute protein content in cariopsis. It seems reasonable to suppose of a very complex nature of genetic control over the protein content in the grain of Janetskis Probat due to a contribution of several chromosomes which belong to three wheat genomes. It is also supposed that 6B chromosome carries genes which exert the highest positive effect. Chromosomes 1B, 1D, 2B, 2D, 3D, 4B, 6A and 7D carry genes responsible for the same characters but exhibiting fairly lower effect
