During the progeny test the growth and carcass characteristics of 43 Simmental breed bulls have been tested in two different groups. The groups were divided in SG and SA on the basis of the origin of their fathers (SG = Germany, SA = Austria). The groups are not statistically significantly different in the gross and net gain. In the carcass characteristics we did not recognize significant differences in the carcass composition. Small, but statistically significant differences between the groups were noticed in depth of chest, conformation index, percentage of tendons, percentage of high valuable cuts and percentage of meat per live weight (SG: 38.8 cm, 61.5, 2.1 %, 51.4 %, 40.6 %; SA: 39.0 cm, 59.0, 2.2 %, 50.8 %, 39.7 %)
