Natural substances and the replacements of expensive synthetic media used for fungal lipids production were tested. Genera strains able to produce arachidonic acid were chosen from Rhizopus and Mortierella (20:4). Soils with a high nitrogen content showed good growth of mycelia with a high proportion of lipids (max. 31.1 per cent) and containing 38 % of oleic acid (18:1). The biomass growth and accumulation of lipids was lower in the case of the high carbon level medium, but linoleic acid (18:2), and linoleic acid (18:3) and arachidonic acid was increased on the account of oleic acid (18:1).
