Relationship among different grade of oil palm fresh fruit branch stored at different times with crude whole palm fruit oil qualities

Grades of oil palm fresh fruit branch are set up by examining the branch weights. They are specified as grade 1 for the branch weight more than 15 kg, grade 2 for the branch weight between 11-15 kg, grade 3 for the branch weight between 6-10 kg, and grade 4 for the branch weight between 3-5 kg. This experiment is designed to study the yield of oil palm and the qualities of palm oil as measured free fatty acid and iodine values. Two oil palm varieties, Dura and Tenera, of different grades were collected and stored 5 days with one day interval sampled. Sample then was extracted and the data for oil yield was taken from each sample. Also the sample was analyzed for free fatty acid and iodine values. The yields of oil for each grade are significantly different. Grade 1 to 4 gave the yield of oil as 20.884, 20.760, 18.311, and 14.302 % respectively. "Tenera" oil palm has oil content of 22.734 % which is more than "Dura" oil palm which has oil content of 14.394 %. The storage of oil palm in a good ventilated area for 5 days will result in the increase of free fatty acid value, even though it will not exceed the standard limit which is 5 %. Oil palm variety Tenera contains the iodine value of 48.343. Oil palm variety Dura contains the iodine value of 46.792. Storage within 5 days and grade of oil palm had no influence on the changing of iodine value of the palm oil.
