Investigation on DBF (densified biomass fuel) pellet production from some weeds

Thailand is an agricultural country. There are numerous weeds and agricultural residues. If these wastes were densified into biomass fuel for use in household and industry, it can replace expensive petroleum fuel and create works for the rural people. The investigation on quality of DBF pellet production for four weeds: Euphorbia geniculata, Tribulus terrestis, Mimosa invisa, Eichhornia crassipes and testing an efficiency on stove (well ventilated metal stove)/fuel compared with firewood and charcoal. The resulted calorific values of: Mimosa invisa, Tribulus terrestis, Euphorbia geniculata, Eichhornia crassipes and Peltophorum pterocapum firewood are almost identical and lower than typical charcoal about one half. Charcoal has calorific value of 7067.66 calories/gram. while the fuel from experimental weeds have calorific values ranging from 3825.49 to 3096.03 calories/gram. The efficiency of stove/fuel of Eichhornia crassipes is 30.23 % the highest and others are respectively lower. The four densified biomass fuel have higher stove/fuel efficiency than firewood and charcoal. Charcoal is 13.77 % the lowest in efficiency and lower than that of firewood.
