Height of peanut plants in the second trial were shorter than those in the control about 4.86 to 17.16 cm. In addition, the application of dieldrin 20-90 gm/20 litres water resulted in decreasing yield production. The yield appeared to be lower than in control 1.96-9.58 gm/plant or about 37.63-183.94 kg/rai. The application of dieldrin 10-20 gm/20 litres water did not give effective control of army worm (Spodoptera litura) and leaf rolling caterpillar (Lamprosema diamenalis). Dieldrin applied at 60-90 gm/20 litres water reduced some populations of army worm, thrips and leaf rolling caterpillars and gave complete control to the populations of aphids (Aphis craccivora K.) leaf eating caterpillar (Orgyia turbata Bltr.) and slug caterpillar (Lagata lepida Cr.) There were no residue of carbofuran and oxamyl found in peanut seeds after harvesting. On the other hand, the residue of dieldrin at every concentration was found to accumulate in nut shell and seeds. The amount of residue found in nut shell and seeds were about 2.592-77.356 ppm and 1.208-35.602 ppm respectively. These amount of residues appeared to be higher than the permissible level given by FAO which in only 0.02 ppm. The result from this investigation suggested that the chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides should be prohibited.
