[Investigation into the effect of stress syndrome of white meat swine breeds and their halfbreeds from the Mediterranean and Submediterranean territory of Montenegro [Yugoslavia] on meat quality]

The occurrence and effect of stress syndrome of swines in Mediterranean and Submediterranean part of Montenegro (Yugoslavia) were studied. In both climatic territories 549 swine were examined. 117 of them, or 21.3 had a positive reaction to halotane test. In Mediterranean part, the percentage of pale, soft and exudative (PSE) meat was 43.3 in stress susceptible swine and 10 in stress resistance swine. In Submediterranean part, stress susceptible swine had 36.6 of PSE meat, and stress resistance swine 6.6 of PSE meat. The differences in percentage of PSE meat in swine in these 2 climatic territories were explained by the higher air temperature during raising in the Mediterranean territory and a bit higher representation of the investigated halfbreed of German Landrace.
