Details of cell structure and arrangement in coleoptiles and intermodes of the F2 segregants from rye crosses between tall and short genotypes were studied. Significant correlation between plant height and coleoptile length of the two crosses Conrah/IPSR- 3030024 and Conrah/Moskowskijkarlik suggested that there could be some relationship between gibberellic acid insensitivity and coleoptile lengths. In some genotypes, both cell number and cell length were related to coleoptile length while in others only cell number or cell length was related to coleoptile length. No indication was found from the present experiment that the dwarfing gene influence either cell number or cell length exclusively, although there was a general tendency for cell number to be affected more than cell length.
