Feeding habits of cattle egret Bubulcus ibis (L.) in agricultural environment of the Chlef region (Algeria)

The content of 500 regurgitates was collected under cattle egret dormitory or nestling trees and was examinated. The importance of insects and particularly beetles and Orthoptera is emphasized. Total absence of amphibia in the feeding habit of the nestlings is mentioned. The utilization of Shannon diversity index has allowed comparisons between the various months of the year. The equitability index has showed in each month an unbalance between the different preys populations which are found in the regurgitates. This unbalance is accentuated during December, January and May.
