CmGV (Codling moth Granulosis Virus)is being developed worldwide for the control of Codling moth in orchard Integrated Pest Management (IMP) strategies. Due to the unique biological replication properties of granulovirus, it is possible, after several years, to reduce Codling moth natural populations in treated areas with profitable impact for beneficial insects, and thus cost reduction for crop protection. The demonstration of the "Verger 2000" ("Orchard 2000") IPM programme throughout France is a good illustration of the successful use of CmGV. In all situations (1 to 3 flights per year and not dependant of initial population density), use of CmGV reduces the number of winter diapausing larvae after two years. All other pesticides do not show this type of effect. Examples of IPM strategies using CMGV are illustrated.
