Cytological and allozyme variability studies in population of Nephotettix virescens which can adapt to resistant rices, showed significant genetic differentiations. The populations exhibited varying meiotic indices and nuclear and chromosomal measurements during the first prophase. The six populations differed in three of the five loci. Allozyme differentiation in N. virescens populations is associated with rice hosts. Thus, resistant rices play an important role in the substructuring of the gene pool of the N. virescens
