Garlic and shallot germplasm evaluation and maintenance

Twenty-one foreign accessions of garlic and shallot including 18 local accessions advanced lines were multiplied, evaluated and maintained. All accessions evaluated varied in their plant and bulb characters. Among the foreign shallot accessions evaluated, Bangkok, Bima, Sri-saket 1 and Sri-saket 2, were found promising in terms of bulb, size, color, and shape. All IPB lines evaluated, on the other hand, showed promising results. IPB 316, 307 and 304 are being considered for release. Other local accessions evaluated need further improvement. In garlic, 3 foreign accessions namely, Chiangmai, Lumbu Putih and Lumbu Kuning showed potential in terms of bulb size. Local accessions 17-022 and 17-025 were found promising in terms of yield and storage quality, respectively
