Flower induction in mango sprayed with two concentrations of KNO3 at varying shoot sizes

The study was conducted to determine the effect of two KNO3 concentrations on varying shoot sizes of mango in terms of time to flower, percentage of flowering and panicle characteristics. Using six carabao mango cultivars, 2 percent and 3 percent concentrations of KNO3 were sprayed separately at varying shoot sizes classified as small (about 0.40 cm), medium (about 0.50-0.90 cm) and big (about 0.91 cm and bigger) in a split-plot design. The study showed that all shoots responded favorably to flower inducer 11 days after spraying both at 2 percent and 3 percent KNO3 concentrations. The application of 3 percent concentration at bigger shoots produced significantly bigger, longer and wider panicles. No significant differences were observed on the percentage of flowering produced by the two KNO3 concentrations at varying shoot sizes
