Combining ability analysis for flag leaf area, yield and its components in spring wheat

Combining ability for flag leaf area, number of tillers per plant, number of grains per spike, 1000-grain weight and grain yield per plant was investigated in F1s of six varieties viz. LU26S, Chakwal86, Kohinoor83, Faisalabad83, Faisalabad85 and WL711. The variance components attributable to both general and specific combining ability were significant for all the traits studied. Reciprocal effects were non-significant for number of grains per spike but highly significant for all other characters. LU26S was the best general combiner for flag leaf area, tillers per plant, 1000- grain weight and yield per plant whereas Chakwal86 was the best for grains per spike.
