Influence of seeding rates and methods of sowing on growth and yielding of spring barley

The highest grain yield in field experiment was obtained from 10.8 cm row spacing as a result of greater plant and head number per unit area than with other sowing methods. Barley seeded in rows spaced 21.6 cm apart, in bands 6 cm wide with 21.6 cm band spacing or broadcast gave significantly lower grain yield. Barley grown in twin rows 7 cm/14.6 cm produced similar grain yield as that grown in 10.8 row spacing. Sowing methods used in micro-field experiment such as row spaced 5.5 or 11 cm apart, twin rows 5.5/11 cm or 5.5/16.5 cm or bands 5.5 cm wide spaced 11 cm apart did not affect grain yield. In both experiments increased plant number per unit area and head number per unit area and reduced plant survival during vegetation, productive tillering, 1000-grain weight, number and weight of grains per head
