Several groups of the genotypes were evaluated on acid soil in the central part of the country (Chimoio), and on saline soil in the south (Umbeluzi) in Mozambique. There was a large variation in tolerance of both soil acidity (aluminum toxicity) and soil salinity. Many genotypes exhibiting tolerance of soil acidity/aluminium toxicity also demonstrated tolerance of soil salinity
