Degradation pathways of aromatic hydrocarbons in fungi and bacteria

The article briefly reviews the present knowledge on the biodegradation of aromatic hydrocarbons by microorganisms. Differences between metabolic pathways of biodegradation in yeasts, filamentous fungi and bacteria, mainly under aerobic conditions, are discussed. Attention was paid to the quantitative structure - biodegradation activity relationships.
