Abundance and composition of the desmid flora in a series of peat pits, in relation to pH and some habitat parameters
1994
Tomaszewicz, G.H. (Warsaw Univ., Warszawa (Poland). Department of Phytogeography)
The results of 9-months' study on the desmid flora in 9 peat excavations are presented. Findings suggest that diversity and species composition of desmids to a great extent depend on the pH of water. Also the colour of the water (humic compounds) and the concentration of ammonium were highly correlated with the development of the desmid flora. No relationship between the abundance of desmid individuals and nutrient content of the water body was found.
