Dynamics of enzyme activity in orthic luvisol and fluvi-calcaric phaeozem under selected crops. 2. Peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase activity

The study of the dynamics of peroxidase (1.11.1.7) and polyphenoloxidase activity (1.10.3.1) in different soils (Orthic Luvisol, Fluvi-calcaric Phaeozem) in natural conditions of Podunajska Nizina, Slovakia, under winter wheat, ensilage maize and spring barley, show the existence of a direct relation between enzyme activity and the content of soil organic matter. The synthesis of humus substances is closely connected with enzyme polyphenoloxidase and mineralization with enzyme peroxidase. Fluvi-calcaric Phaeozem preserved 1.5-times higher periodical activity under winter wheat and ensilage maize, and 2-times higher under spring barley in comparison with Orthic Luvisol. The most marked differences between tested soils under growing plants were found by polyphenoloxidase. Compared to Orthic Luvisol, its activity was in Fluvi-calcaric Phaeozem 2.3-times under winter wheat, 1.6-times higher under ensilage maize and 8-times higher under spring barley.
