Observation of costs in the food industry

In the situation of the market economy, particularly after price liberalization, economic conditions of the food industry have significantly changed. The costs and prices of final production rose and resulted in the decline of production and sales of food products. So far the development of costs and prices in the food industry has not been investigated in a complex way by any institution. Therefore, a system and a way of gathering and observing the costs has not been worked out, though the unfavorable development demanded this. The Research Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics Bratislava, Slovakia, have set about this task. The costs and price analysis in the research report pointed out the development trends of costs and prices in mill-bakery, sugar-refining, dairying, and the meat industries.
