Effects of some organic and chemical fertilizers on growth and yield of Thai super sweet composite 1 DMR

Duck manure and phosphate fertilizer application tended to increase corn dry matter and yield but no significant response was observed. Duck manure treatment slightly increased the concentration of phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium concentration in leaf, stem and cob but nitrogen content in all plant parts was not affected by duck manure application. The remarkable effect of phosphate fertilizer on concentration of some nutrients was noted. Phosphate fertilizer at the rate of 8 kg P2O5/rai resulted in the highest concentration of nitrogen and potassium in stem while the two ratios of TSP and PR (TSP: PR=80:20 and 60:40) gave the highest potassium content in leaf and nitrogen in stem. Corn reciving the combination of 640 kg/rai castor meal and 8 kg P2O5/rai of TSP produced the highest yield. The supplement of urea to organic fertilizer was found to influence growth and yield of sweet corn. Castor meal application (320 kg/rai) tended to produce slightly higher corn yield and dry matter than duck manure (1.6 tons/rai) or urea (16 kg N/rai) treatments. Increasing urea application rates resulted in slight decrease of dry matter. Positive effects of urea on yield were also noted when applied to the duck manure treated plots. Adding 4 kg N/rai of urea to cator meal treated plots produced the highest yield. Further increasing urea application rates tended to decrease corn yield. There was no significant interaction of organic fertilizer and urea treatments on nutrient content in corn plant.
