Variability and heredity of leaf morphological parameters in poplar section Leuce clones

This research on the variability and heredity of leaf morphological parameters in poplar section Leuce included ten clones as follows: Populus alba, Populus alba f. boleana, Populus tomentosa, Populus alba x Populus grandidentata, and Populus tremula cv. Astria. The results obtained show that there are statistically very significant differences between the clones (genotypes) regarding the parameters of leaf size and number examined. In addition, very high values of heredity coefficients in the broad sense were obtained. The total results show clearly that the researched parameters of leaf size and form can be utilized as reliable indicators in the macroscopic determination of clones both in experimental and in regular nursery production
