Hay as component of ration in cow nutrition

High cost of hay affects high price of milk, so that it is necessary to limit the amount to about 4 kg/day. This limit is needed because of hay abrasion property and its effect on fat content in milk. Legume hay should certainly be used together with corn silage. When meadow hay is used (in addition to corn silage), insufficiency of proteins must be supplemented by some kind of oil-meal. For cows yielding more than 10 kg/day supplemental mixes of concentrates or mixes for milk should be used. Necessity is imposed on formulating standard composition of rations for some areas having specific ecological characteristics and therefore characteristic production of feeds. Finally, silage and good-quality hay preparation is a basis for realistic realization of a new system of cow nutrition and special attention is to be paid to this novel technology introduction.
