Experiments with different genotypes of cultivated species of the genus Mentha (M. x piperita, M. arvensis, M. spicata, M. x cardiaca) were conducted under field conditions. In all species the highest variation was found in yield of dry leaves. In M. x piperita variability of menthol content was greater than in M. arvensis. In M. spicata and M. cardiaca, variation of essential oil was higher than that of carvone content. The reaction specificity of individual genotypes of the same species as dependent upon year of investigation was recorded. Certain genotypes showed higher stability of the characters under investigation than the other ones. Genotype effect was the most decisive for high yield and content of essencial oil and methol.
