Two synthetic maize populations of broad genetic basis, NS 796 A/92 and NS 2040 B/92, were studied for the genetic and phenotypic correlations for grain yield, silking delay, percentage of barren plants, grain moisture percentage at harvest and number of ears per plant. The trials with HS families were set up according to the Nested design method in 1994. According to rainfall amount and distribution, the year 1994 can be considered as dry. Rainfall deficits with respect to maize requirements amounted to 144 mm and 188 mm in the locations of Rimski Sancevi (Yugoslavia) and Srbobran (Yugoslavia), respectively. Grain moisture percentage at harvest and number of ears per plant were positively correlated with grain yield. The percentage of barren plants and silking delay were in negative correlation with grain yield.
