The following maize hybrids were observed: two dents, two semi-dents and two popcorns and one of each: a hybrid with high oil content, a hybrid with high lysine content and a hybrid with amylopectin starch. The results indicated that physical properties depend, to a great extent, to endosperm type, while changes of chemical composition were not significant. Hybrids of high kernel density (popcorns, semi-flints and waxy hybrids) have higher test weight and kernel density express higher resistance to milling. These hybrids have low flotation index and mill lot volume. Hybrids with higher portion of soft fraction (high lysine and yellow dent) have low test weight and kernel density, i.e. low resistance to milling, while the total mill volume, as well as, flotation index are higher.
