The share of potassium in wheat and its connection with yield as influenced by fertilization

Fertilization for many years on a soil of rather good fertility in potassium caused changes of potassium share in the mature wheat plant. Application of nitrogen, phosphorus, and even potassium caused mainly very significant reduction of potassium in grain, but very significant increase of its concentration in straw. The average potassium concentration varied considerably by years. The highest difference was 32 in grain and 165 in straw. Potassium fertilization showed very slight average effect on grain yield, but a significant increase was obtained in three out of nine years. Correlation between grain yield and potassium share in the whole yield (grain + straw) was very high (r=0.78-0.87) under influence of potassium fertilization.
