Establishment of Taxus baccata callus cultures and evaluation of taxoid production

A procedure for initiation and proliferation of Taxus baccata callus culture is described. Embryo and seedling explants were found to be a suitable plant material for callus initiation. The effect of NAA supplemented to the Woody Plant medium on growth and taxoid accumulation in the callus cultures was also investigated. An inverse relationship between growth and taxoid accumulation was observed.
